“proper” “solar” dyeing

25 Aug

HA! I may be a good looking kid, but i am kind of dumb sometimes :)   Or too smart for my own pants? One or the other!

THIS is how my solar dyeing efforts look now:

Purty boring, ay? I will leave them for a month; the previous “solar dye” in the glass pickle jar was started on Aug 4, with a small piece removed today (Aug 25), and some still in to be scooped out the middle or end of  September. I figure that too will be the end of our summer heat, such as it has been! Nothing to say though that one can’t do the same on a warming pad or electric blanket–WITH PROPER SAFETY PRECAUTIONS, or BAZORT!!!!!!!!!!!! The notations are how many buds i used (dried), the amount of DISTILLED water, and the date and content of the fabrics. “HIB”= hibiscus, “HH”=hollyhocks.  Quite quite scientific. I did manage too to differentiate the hollyhock buds as the deep almost black burgundy dry out to a, well, a deep almost black burgundy :)  I have a pinker bud bucket also soaking, but you get the idea here.

Crossposting this with the tag “natural dyeing” on Dangerous Mouth of the Rose.
