Colour and Mood

15 Apr

Chicken and the egg? Same kind of question, which comes first? Am i feeling blah in the neutral zone because of the blahs and neutrals outside, or am i deliberately dragging myself down because it’s easier than fighting it?

A hastily set up appointment this morning with Dr X, who has hit that rusty nail on the head. My exercise today is to USE COLOUR.

There’s this:

pretty but sad

And this:

happier, but.....

But this is what we’re talking of here, “extreme” colour, “real” colour:

page from the (my) Sketchbook Project 2011

(I won’t argue the validity or definition of “real” in this instance.) I’m to translate this into sad colours, and then happy colours. I like this approach. I’m also not to dwell on detail or making it perfect.

Feeling a bit like that myself at present. Interesting idea. I expect everyone has their own unique happy/sad colours.

Arlee, I really love everything that you do… you have such tenacity and you always continue. I got the book you sent today .. it was so wonderful and just exactly what I needed to fill in the gaps in my brain about eco dyeing. And I honestly cannot describe in words how thrilled I was that you included a piece of stitched cloth and dyed cloth in the book I was amazed and overtaken. I have written about you on my blog and mentioned you on Jude’s new Sewin blog as a part of the Heart Whispering class she is doing. I am learning so much these days!! It certainly makes me feel special. So thank you again ….. so so much!! : )

It’s amazing how our brains respond to the use of colour – bright colours seem to elicit a whole different feeling. I love the naturals, but I know that I truly ‘need’ an influx of blue and purple and red (maybe a teeeny little dab of orange…thanks be to your influence!!). It’s hard to find the balance between the two.
