Okay, the series may move forward then. I keep thinking up new ideas and ways to implement it, so that must be a good thing. The weekend conspired against me and i didn’t get 2 more pieces done—-garden and dog and weather ganged up to keep me outside
(Time to set up the patio lounge and umbrella!)
(But i have to finish previous things!!!! I have a bad habit of getting 3/4 of the way through something and then flashing on a new idea and letting the older work pile up. Sometimes that’s a necessary thing as i can pick it up months later and get the blinding light of how to finish, sometimes it just makes me feel guilty …….when i want to see what i’ve accomplished, i look at my own galleries and realize again this year while productive and full of learning, it has not been a year of finishing work!
There’s a deadline looming and i’m not sure i’m going to make it. I like the piece but i’m bogged down by the intricacy of the stitching! Will have to bite the bullet and work on it through the day at the school while fabrics are ripening.)
Note to self: since i originally wrote the previous paragraph, i have decided i can’t/won’t finish because i really am not finding it as intriguing or as pressing to complete now. Not a cop-out: realistic! If done it would be in a show, but why compromise myself?
I scored some bamboo fabric and can’t wait to see what the results are with it! I have only 7 (ACKKK!!!!!) days left of residency (since i don’t do weekends) and want to do several more larger pieces. The good thing though is that Greyman dragged home some long pipes of varying dimensions for and they are at the perfect stage of rustiness, so i can continue through the summer with various experiments. (My man and i are lucky–he knows he doesn’t have to buy me diamonds to keep me happy, and i’m happy with the rusty bits, stones and bones that he brings me
)
Yesterday’s results were fun, but now that i’ve conquered this method, i want to do some “plainer” pieces as bases too for the ol’ stash!
And the first writing piece i showed a couple of days ago:
Not sure i should have bothered, but ya don’t know until you try.
My second piece in the same vein is being worked on:

Love it! This is really intriguing work. Can you give an idea of the size of these pieces?

Thanks Wai-Yuk! they range from 18×30 for the strappy pieces in the first photo, to approximately 18 to 23″ square for several of them, and the large piece i am keeping is approximately 36×47

I sooooo agree with Meg Fowler. Unfortunately I had some minor surgery on the inside of my lip a few days ago so drooling has been problematic anyway, but now it has reached super-drool proportions. Oh, how I love the first rusty piece.

Lucky you to have a man that truly ‘gets’ you! There are things in this world more valuable than diamonds, pearls and flowers – at least to us. Then again – you would use the flowers to dye with!!

These pieces are really gorgeous. I can’t believe the fabulous array of colours you get. Eco dyeing is very big here in Tasmania (although it isn’t something that fits with what I do, textile speaking). I’ll be recommending your blog to my textile friends.
