go big bees or go home? buzzing along

20 Jul

I made the bees too big!!!!!! Now the dilemma (! ? ! ?) is: do i use them interspersed with the remaining 3 of the proper size, or do i make 5 the right size and use these two on the bottom left??? Or do i just make 5 bees of the correct size and save these for something else?

Deb’s fabric is PERFECT for these!

When i cut them out, i was careful to leave no cuts except around the bees, so now i also have a “negative” for possible use in something else.

Placement ideas:

top?

bottom left on the blank spot?

on the bottom of the “hive” ?

Not a LOT larger, but are they too big?

size difference comparison

And the dimension achieved with this method:

I have 36 days to finish this piece for the exhibition. I also have to admit to myself there is no way i am going to get the 3d piece done for this…….poop.

I think your big bees look great Arlee! I mean what’s ‘too big’ for a bee?

:) well, they *do* have to be *somewhat* in proportion, but the more i look at them, the more i like them. I’ll know when the 5 smaller “proper” sized ones are done.

Your bees are looking great – but make the 5 smaller ones, too. Then decide … you’ll be able to use whichever you feel don’t fit this particular piece, maybe you’ll even decide to suspend the extras, from the ceiling above the piece’s gallery location, above the height of your work … buzzing up and away from the hive … or make a broach for the opening … or use in a fundraiser to help our bees … they certainly won’t go unused.
I have some Chinese made green silk / rayon brocade, with bees machine embroidered all over it … I bought it over 8 years ago cuz I loved it. It’ll likely take to eco leaf pigment dye very well, as it was the same shipment of brocade I used to eco dye the Japanese maple leaves, from our yard. Interested? I’m sure we could swap / trade something … no money need exchange hands.

    Your call.

I LOVE the Bee’s cut out .. I don’t think their too big but it’s really hard to have an opinion with out seeing it in person. It’s hard to tell how big the cloth is that your putting them on but I SOOOO love how they turned out cut out of the fabric. KEWL!!!!!

its hard to tell scale from these images but the idea of bigger and smaller appeals to me..give a sense of perspective…

The big and the little ones could be near and further away…giving your piece a bit of extra depth?Anyway they are bee ootiful.
