OOOO, i’m sticking with it–well, i have to in one sense as it’s for a show, but it’s also not as scarey as i thought it would be
I can still build texture EVEN WITH COLOUR! Jason’s workshop was about collage and related techniques/strategies, but since shape is paramount in that, it translated well to stitching for me.
I’m using stronger lines this time, these harder colours demand it. No delicate lacey bits here!
I like how the weight or type of a thread and the stitch used can influence things–there are many blacks. The white is a basting line by the way, not part of the design. I’m eyeballing that though for future work
The only thing i don’t like about this one is that every five minutes there are new bits of fluff or animal hairs attached to it!
The show by the way is “Worked Up”, 9 artists who were in the Jason Pollen workshop exhibiting subsequent work from the exercises used in the classes. October 2nd to 8th, a very small window, but we will be in the Art Central complex in downtown Calgary and a First Thursday falls in there.
I best get back at it: tomorrow i return to the “real world” with floristry.

I love your piece, working in red, black and white is fun. I used some kimono fabric, hand quilted and beaded some different sized squares and rectangles over pelon. Still don’t know what to do with the pieces but it was fun to put them together. Silk is so great to work with.

Doesn’t every good piece of art contain at least a dozen bits of animal fluff? Please don’t burst my bubble and tell me it isn’t so!
