I ordered a black and a white 12wt mako cotton (Aurifil) and have big plans for these threads!
Anyhoo, as to “where it leads”: i’m trying to work away from “art quilts”—- i don’t consider myself a quilter, or an art quilter. I use textiles and threads in perhaps some conventional ways–with my own spin!–but i really want to explore more of the qualities of cloth with and without “battings”. Art doesn’t have to be flat, regular edged, squared off or “quilted”–cloth bends, moves, even breaks in a sense, is so malleable and able to take colour changes and treatments that i wonder “why am i limiting myself?”
As i mentioned in a previous post, i have been having dreams/nightmares about strangely shaped pieces of cloth slithering over my bed and trying to tie me and themselves together with long stringy fingers–i can’t get the image/feeling out of my head so i might as well work with it! They are vaguely threatening but oddly familiar and paradoxically secure feeling as well: who knows what the subconscious is saying here?
To this end, i am doing some serious stoodio time, sampling and madly scribbling notes, putting my old knowledge to the test and trying out some new things. I won’t be posting a lot of that until i know the direction i’m going–i spend waaay too much time online and not enough doing the work some weeks…….
Stick around though, occasional bits of other things will show up–my “beautified” ugly ecoprint piece is very close to completion!

Hmmmm…sort of cellular…or neuro-cellular…pre-Cambrian octopi?
I’ve never thought of you as any sort of quilter either, dear friend. More like an embroiderer…But with SAQA’s current definition of ‘quilt’ (layers — not necessarily 3, not necessarily one of them batting)… That said, I’m still exploring batty stuff!
There’s room for all of us in the textile universe!

So many organizations are redefining “quilt”–and some barely qualify as that anymore–which suits me fine
It’s a shame to label everything anyways this way–so much textile art out there that is not in any sense of the word, was never meant to be and is so explorative!

and i like “pre Cambrian octopi” though that’s far from what they will be
