connecting the dots

07 Mar

The last stage of stitching on Nightmare Interrupted, you know that “14 stitches here, 29 over there, 62 here again and ohjeesh i forgot that section” stage…………….this is the only time i really wish for super powers!

And i received my packages of “tie dye” threads in the mail yesterday. The solid colours aren’t quite as lurid as i thought they’d be, so they will go in the appropriate colour drawer after all :)

The only thing i don’t like about these is that none have a colour code anywhere, so i had to resort to doing this:

Very scientific nomenclature, ay? The photo will become the reference on my work blog. I bought 3 packages of this stuff, so can maintain some continuity with this system! I do actually have plans for using these—most bright colours hurt my feelings right now :) , but there is room for some in what i want to do next. (NOT the next photo or paragraph though!)

I also have started my piece for an Australian show. This one might not be the final choice for it, but it heads me in the right direction: body parts and ecoprints.

next heart project

As i clear my stoodio of extraneous things because of the house being for sale, i keep finding older sketches, files of samples and notes that have refreshed some directions. As i’ve said before, doing this once in awhile means being able to look at ideas with fresh eyes: i may not have had the skill set before to complete as i wanted to, or the right materials, but as we learn and progress as artists, these are valuable in so many ways for future work. We all have personal iconography and it’s there through the years for whatever reason, so use it!

That last commentary on re-reading your own musings is so true. Sketchbooks are more like nets to capture thoughts, less books of plans of the kind architects need…

Having to move house is traumatic but when you are able to use the experience to reflect and revisit old ‘places’ it can be uplifting.

Definitely drool-worthy threads! Good for you for coming up with the bright side of all the moving angst – not so sure I would be quite so willing to look on the bright side of the whole thing.
