The Prism tie dye threads are what they are..a yellow, chunk, a blue, chunk, a pink, chunk, no blending except for an iota where they meet. These are the threads people hate who hate variegateds. No subtlety, no sneaking in that bridge of green, orange or purple. (This is the one i “coded” as #8, since they have no coding from the manufacturer.)
That being all said, they are kind of fun, definitely hippie and pop. The stitch used obviously makes a difference, that spiderweb reminding me of the old Ojo de Dios we made in the 70′s, wrapping hideously coloured synthetic yarns around wire coat hanger frames
I can see some really nasty stuff happening with these threads in the future. They are a bit coarser than DMC, Anchor and the like, coarser even then the original Prism line used to be.
For 4.99 a package for 18 solids and 18 variegateds, i ain’t gonna complain too much!

Had to go look up Prism thread as I wasn’t familiar with it and found that you can get a pack of 79 solid and 26 variegated on amazon.com for 12.99 US! And it’s cotton! (Or “cotton”). What’s not to love? Not every material has to be organic angel’s wings.

yep, used to buy one that at Walmart for 8.97 here in Canada–the variegateds in that one are better but quite loud! And i love the “organic angel wings ” comment

Hee. I think they’d be great for subversive bits of color.
I do get so tired of fiber art and fiber artists—the antithesis of you—where every word.and.every.thread and every.scrap.of.cloth is just.so.precious. Just too twee for me.
My drawing/printmaking teacher is my “art mother” and HER teacher (my art “grandmother”) told me that a Japanese master colorist, then in his 90′s, said, you can use ANY color with any other color–in the right quantity . . . . It’s the right quantity part that takes decades.

never saw the sense of “red and green should not be seen”
and some of the variegateds in that package are definitely Subversive–you’ve got Bolshevik Blue, Big Cash Green, Cardinal Sin red……:)

Bah – EVERY colour goes together in nature, so who came up with the idea that they don’t in art? Never could figure that one out – but then again, maybe I’ve adopted that principle because I don’t posses any colour sense whatsoever. Hmmm….
